Bringing a new dog into the house is easy if you already have dogs living with cats - assuming the new one is not prey driven. The last dog (black in color) I brought into the house stayed on a leash sitting by my side when viewing cats. He was really excited, for all the wrong reasons I thought. But it turned out OK, though the first time one of the cats rubbed up against him (mistaking him for the black dog ALL the cats, including my live in the house feral, loved to pieces) I held my breath. His eyes got big, his tail wagged furiously, but it wasn't lunch he had on his mind, but cat butt. He got so enthusiastic about it he would upend the cats, so they learned to avoid him.
