So, nearly everyone from club.kingsnake.com is at the big reptile show in Daytona this weekend, leaving me, yes ME, in charge. And the first thing I did was post about dance music! That'll teach Jeff to go out of town.
This is my stolen iPod challenge. Stolen away from Roxanne, who is currently doing it as a YouTube thing that's very very cool. But then karma got me because JeffB stole it from me and one-upped the hell out of me, because he gives a free iPod away every month to some lucky poster. Jerk. So after you post your random ten here, go post it there so you can get stuff.
Where was I? Oh yeah. The rules of the challenge are simple: Using any kind of MP3 player or program, such as iTunes, shuffle your ENTIRE MUSIC LIBRARY (no cheating) and list the first ten songs. Did I mention NO CHEATING? We all have shit on our iPods we'd rather no one knew about. That's kind of the point, to totally embarrass you. Oh, and maybe to find some wonderful new music.
Feel free to give a commentary about the songs, or just list them - your call.
Here's mine:
- Come Back from San Francisco - The Magnetic Fields
- It's No Game (Part 2) - David Bowie
- Born Under Punches (The Heat Goes On) - Talking Heads
- I Don't Want to Get Over You - Magnetic Fields
- Summer Calling (DJ Tiesto Remix) - Andain
- Ask - The Smiths
- Human - Jason Walker
- Take a Chance on Me - Erasure
- Shelter (Boris & Beck Dark Mix) - Ann Nesby
- Jolene - Melissa Etheridge & Dolly Parton
Your turn!
OMG, Dolly Parton and Melissa Etheredge did a remake of JOLENE? I am SO there.

1. Unwritten by Natasha Bedingfield. I love this song. Not a whole lot of variety in the lyrics, but I love how it builds, musically and I just feel more alive when listening to it.
2. Laughing Matter from Howard Crabtree’s When Pigs Fly. Great song with a great message. Bette Midler did a cover of this song that is also really wonderful.
3. Make Your Own Kind of Music by Mama Cass. I love this song. I especially loved it in Beautiful Thing, which is a gorgeous gay coming of age movie.
4. Shaft of Love from Howard Crabtree’s When Pigs Fly. Very funny song about Cupid and his duties, complete with the double entendres you’d expect. ;)
5. House of Jack Built by Aretha Franklin. Queen of Soul ... ‘nuff said.
6. The Gift of Love by Bette Midler. I love her. Good thing too, or my boyfriend would have never seen me after the second date. Love of Miss Midler was a pre-requisite and was NOT negotiable. ;) This song makes me cry.
7. I Say A Little Prayer For You by Aretha Franklin. See above.
8. Queenie Was a Blonde from The Wild Party by Andrew Lippa. Great musical that included some faces you might remember from Rent, i.e., Idina Menzel and Taye Diggs.
9. Light in the Loafers from Howard Crabtree’s When Pigs Fly. The basic premise of this song is should an actor pretend to be butch to get jobs even outside of auditions? Funny song, but, at least from my perspective, an accurate description of a dilemma.
10. Sam and Me from Howard Crabtree’s When Pigs Fly. Great funny song that talks about how Samantha and Darren had to hide the true nature of their relationship. ;) Very funny, and draws great parallels to modern day gay relationships.
