It hasn't happened for fifteen years, when Ch. Fernhill's Phantom, CD, jumped up on his owner Miranda Levin after becoming the first Scottish Deerhound in history to win the Hound Group at Westminster. But last night the beautiful Ch. Thistleglen Margot, bred by my friend Jeannie Frye, became Queen of the Hounds.
Sometimes there's a deerhound who does a lot of winning who doesn't thrill me, but Margot has taken my breath away from the first time I saw her as a one year old. She deserves every win she's ever gotten (including her four Bests in Show), and I've never been prouder of my breed than last night watching that gorgeous girl show everyone how a Scottish Deerhound is supposed to move.
I'm not wild about the photos of Margot on the Westminster site, but they're here and here. I'll see if I can get a better one scanned.
You know, I was there the last time a deerhound took group.

Margot was beautiful last night. I thought of you when she won her group.
