Readers of this blog know I am very close to my mom. Fortunately my mom is absolutely fine, but my friend and co-worker Therese is not so lucky.
Her mom Betty was recently stricken with leukemia, and is now having terrible, life-threatening side-effects from chemo, the drugs they used to to combat the side effects, and the drugs they used to combat the effects of the drugs they used to combat the side effects.
And to top it all off, she and her family are spending pretty much every cent they have to pay for the drugs in the first place.
Somewhat hesitantly, Therese created a website where friends and family could contribute a bit toward her mom's drug bills:
In a perfect world, everyone would have sufficient healthcare when they need it, but that's not the way the system works. It's tough enough dealing with health problems, our own or in those we love, that it doesn't seem like we should have to worry about how to afford trying to get well. Mom doesn't know we're having some difficulty paying for her medications and other necessities, and we hope to keep it that way. Her job right now is to relax and get well...not to worry about if she can afford to get well!
So, here I am...asking, and hoping, for the kindness of strangers. I never would have thought I'd be asking for help like this, but I'm hoping a few kind souls might stumble on this site and for whatever reason, choose to help with Mom's medications.
I know things are tight for us all right now, but my heart goes out to Therese and her mom and their family. If you have a few spare dollars, please send them Betty and Therese's way... www.meds4mom.com.
