Raven will be having surgery on Wednesday, June 8, to remove her left rear leg. One thing this last week of pain has taught us both: We won't miss it.
I have heard from so many deerhound and greyhound owners who have gone through this with their dogs that the pain of osteosarcoma is so bad that the dogs find amputation a relief. I can well believe it at this point. Depsite aggressive pain control - everything I could throw at it has been thrown - she's really suffering. I never knew that the reason they amputate is not to treat the cancer, but to stop the pain. I get it now.
Raven has been on three legs all week, and gets around really well. I look forward to the day when she's on three legs because she HAS three legs, and not because of pain.
I will be staying with her all day and all night, and won't be able to post how she is doing until I'm home again. However, you can look at Gina Spadafori's Dogma, where she is posting updates on her dog Ben's surgery (which he came through with flying colors on Monday). She may be able to post an update on Raven's surgery before I will.
If you believe in such things, yes, Raven and I will take any prayers, white light, candles, blessings, warm wishes, good thoughts, invocations, affirmations, or any and all positive energy sent our way.
Of course, she's in my thoughts and prayers, as are you.

I am thinking of you and Raven, and so is the entire G-pack. And yes, call me and I will post on Dogma.

My thoughts are with you both Christie and Raven, I'll be thinking of you and hoping that the surgery is a success for reducing her pain and giving her a better quality of life. HUGS to you both.

Christie, you and Raven are in our prayers here in ND. You both are so valuable to the Dog world and I wish you and your pupper the best in the days to come. The Lord holds even the furry creatures in His arms. Lean on Him. Take care.
