I felt better yesterday, then I had another one of those gasping-for-air, thought-I'd-die, almost-passed-out whooping episodes last night, and felt dizzy, shakey, and drowsy for hours afterward. Then I had another one, although it was much milder, and then I slept until past 1 PM, and now it's 5:30 and I'm sleepy and yawning constantly and shaking.
WTF IS WRONG WITH ME? I left a message for my doctor yesterday but she never called back, and while I realize I can call the advice nurse and/or go to urgent care, I just want someone to tell me what's wrong with me.

[UPDATE: I found a sound file of an adult with whooping cough on the web. It sounds just like me. Maybe you can see why it's so freaking scary.]

Makes me sick to listen to it. Geez, Christie!

A woman at work has had a very bad cough for over two weeks. She got it from her teenage son. At first her Doctor thought it might be whooping cough, but it turned out it wasn't that. Mostly she has just suffered through it, even going on a long planned vacation with it. At work, everyone avoids her.
Perhaps it it somthing "going around"?
If what you have is what she has, then the good news is its not whooping cough. The bad news is it lasts a long time and makes you feel miserable.

OUCH! I couldn't even listen to the whole thing. I sure hope you're feeling better soon!!!

The coughing is terrible enough, but then the worst part has to be the "not breathing in" part! Hope the doctor has gotten back to you with some new medication that truly helps.

Well I can't help you feel any better, but I can send you a picture of the friends who are keeping you company.

I've got most of the collection here and founds it's much better to play witht he large plush versions than the play with the live small ones. Maybe get one as a voodoo doll.

That's terrible! Do you have an inhaler? Take care of yourself and get better!

Christie,
I'm sorry you're feeling so bad, and I hope you feel better soon. I'm glad you posted about whooping cough, because I read the description and I think that's what I have, too. I'll have to wait till I go home to listen to the sample, 'cause my work 'puter doesn't have a sound card. :-(
