NBC Nightly News anchor Tom Costello reported tonight that "California veterinarian Paul Pion has surveyed the 30,000 members of his national Veterinary Information Network." He quoted Dr. Pion as saying, "If what veterinarians are suspecting are cases, then it's much larger than anything we've seen before." Costello commented that amounted to "potentially thousands of sick or dead pets."
He concluded the piece with an update on Negra, a small black dog who NBC
News had profiled last week when she was in a Los Angeles veterinary hospital
fighting for her life. Costello said, "Doctors had to put her sleep
yesterday."
