I apologize for not blogging about dog dentistry, music, shoes, moving with pets, gay actors on TV, cute things my dogs have done in the city, my upcoming trip to New York City, the recent concert photo contest I judged where one of the other judges was Alice Cooper, or anything else you're not tired of hearing me blog about, because I have to tell you that I want to fly to Massachussetts and spit on the 61 legislators who think the equality of its citizens should be put to a vote. I mean, that seems fair since I want the "special right" to have the same rights my brothers do, to marry the women they love.
I might have to give all my money to MA Governor-elect Deval Patrick, though:
Earlier in the day, the governor-elect, who supports gay marriage, met with the leaders of the Democratic-controlled Legislature to argue against a vote, calling it a "question of conscience."
Patrick charged that the amendment process was being used to "consider reinserting discrimination into the constitution."
"This is not just another question for popular decision. This is a question, under the equal protection clause, about what freedoms the minority is entitled to," Patrick said.
At least one politician in the state gets it. And to be fair, he's not alone. Read it and weep. I am.

For once, I am proud to say I live in MA. Not because this is going to go to a vote, that is ABSOLUTELY not the reason, but because for the first time in a long time, it seems we have a governor that gets it!

I couldn't agree any more...so glad that we finely have a governor that has his head screwed on where it should be.

Chirk up, Christie. Only 62 members of the Mass. legislature voted to let this go to a referendum; "132" didn't. That means about 3/4 of them came down on the side of human decency. Who's to say the people of Massachusetts won't, too?
